Created for a Digital Arts course, I wanted to make a metaphor-filled, surrealist self-portrait that juxtaposes the emotional, creative, and logical aspects of my identity. Although I appreciate careful planning, I’ve realized how vital it is to be adaptable to changing my project vision as part of my creative process.

herRenaissance is dedicated to my younger self, an acknowledgement of my growth as a learner and individual. The bright colours reflect the shift to a more optimistic and enthusiastic mindset, in contrast to the calm, dark purple background. Depicting myself as a butterfly perched on a tulip represents the transformation of my self-confidence that I experienced over these past few months. Visual rhythm is created here through the use of repeated lines and colours, and proportions of the flower and the butterfly wings are exaggerated to emphasize the surrealist ideals. Balance is achieved through the intentional positioning of the butterfly and tulip.
